Broken Monument is a test of judgment disguised as a scavenging run. You need to collect three small quest objects in Dam Battlegrounds, protect them through the return trip, and make smart use of the ARC Raiders Items already in your loadout. The locations aren't mechanically difficult, but the Scrap Yard is visually noisy, the Raider Camp can become tense fast, and one greedy detour can turn a clean objective run into a total loss.

What You Actually Need to Finish

Tian Wen offers Broken Monument after you complete What We Left Behind. Every required objective must happen during the same round: reach the hallowed First Wave battleground near the Scrap Yard, recover the First Wave Compass by the damaged vehicles, find the First Wave Video Tape near the cylindrical containers, collect the Old Field Rations in the Raider Camp, extract, and return all three objects to Tian Wen.

That last part changes how you should think about the mission. This isn't three separate errands, and extracting with only two objects won't preserve partial progress. Before you commit to the exit, open your inventory and confirm that the compass, tape, and rations are all present. It sounds obvious, yet players often search one location, get distracted by loot, then leave without checking the actual quest items.

The Route I Prefer

I usually enter the southern side of the Scrap Yard and work through the objectives in a straight line. Start at the broken vehicles, sweep the ground and wreckage edges for the compass, then move toward the cylindrical containers and inspect their bases and nearby cover for the tape. The Raider Camp comes last because it tends to demand the most caution.

Use the damaged vehicles as your first visual anchor.
Search around, rather than only inside, the cylindrical containers.
Before entering Raider Camp, identify a retreat direction.
After collecting the rations, stop taking optional fights and head for extraction.

The southern approach isn't mandatory. A nearby threat, noisy firefight, or awkward starting position can make the camp-first route better. The useful rule is simple: choose the path that avoids crossing the same exposed ground twice. Arc Raiders rewards that kind of route planning more than blindly following the shortest line between markers.

From what I've seen, the most common mistake is treating every search area like a loot room: sprint in, glance at the obvious spot, and sprint out. Slow down for a controlled sweep, then move before you spend too long exposed. You don't need to clear every threat or grab every crate to make this quest worthwhile.

What Changed Around Update 1.42.0

Update 1.42.0 added the second part of the Phantom Targets project, expanded event content, introduced the Tick Hunter Set, adjusted regional map conditions, and brought more general fixes. None of those changes rewrite Broken Monument's objectives, but they can change the feel of a familiar route. Activity around Dam Battlegrounds may make a previously comfortable crossing less attractive, so keep your approach flexible instead of treating an old route as permanent doctrine.

The Reward Is Only Part of the Payoff

Delivering the three objects gives you Arpeggio I, Compensator II, and 80 Medium Ammo. Those rewards can help a developing loadout, but the quest's better value is the lesson it teaches about Arc Raiders: loot has no value until you bring it home. Broken Monument also gives the Scrap Yard a sense of history through the compass, tape, and rations. My strongest recommendation is to enter with a modest objective-focused kit, skip unnecessary fights, and extract as soon as the rations are secured.
